JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of City Clerk. Receive payments due city and post to appropriate accounts. Open new accounts. Initiate work orders for service and all other duties related to the utility billing department.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC CORE JOB RESPONSILITIES (not all inclusive):
- Accept payments and post to accounts using computer
- Initiate work orders for utility connection, new services, disconnection, re-read meters, and trash, sewer service and animal control
- Check post readings and make corrections, adjustments, meter change outs
- Maintain billing registers; reconcile as required
- Count and balance cash drawer daily
- Take care of all utility billing
- Re-compute sewer charges annually and take care of all rate changes when there are rate increases
- Accept and write up work orders on flatbed orders, leaks and sewers
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. REQUIRED:
Knowledge:
- Must have basic reading and writing knowledge of English
- Knowledge of common office procedures
- Basic knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting
Skills:
- Social skills to interact and converse with a wide varitety of customers and create a favorable image of the City and its employees
- Computer skills to include word processing and spreadsheets
- Operate a 10 key calculator and other office equipment
- Analytical skills to balance accouonts, identify and correct errors
- Skill in assisting customers on the telephone
Abilities:
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods
- Ability to interact and converse with a variety of customers
- Verbal ability to report to supervisor as well as communicate with the public
- Ability to interact with a positive attitude with the general public and co-workers
Education:
- High School diploma or GED
Experience:
- Prior experience in bookkeeping, clerical and customer service positions
Licensing/Certification:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class D Oklahoma Driver's License and have driving record satisfactory to insurance carrier
B. DESIRED:
Rudimentary knowledge of Spanish language words and phrases
