JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of Street Supervisor. Operate flatbed truck and other equipment to maintain municipal infrastructure, traffic signals, signage, and vegetation.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Regular attendance is required.
• Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
• Requires independent judgment.
• Requires ability to sit for prolonged time periods.
• Requires physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, and work in awkward positions.
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to enter and operate trucks and heavy equipment.
• Requires eye/hand coordination to operate heavy equipment, power and hand tools.
• Must create favorable impression of city workers to general public through conduct, speech and appearance.
• Must operate radio equipment to maintain contact with base and other employees.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):
• Operate a variety of heavy equipment and trucks to maintain infrastructure, traffic signals, signage, and vegetation.
• Performs operator maintenance on tools and equipment used.
• Operate equipment to mow roadway, airport, and other designated areas.
• Operate equipment to stripe roadways and parking lots.
• Operate equipment to spray for mosquitoes, ticks, rats, etc.
• Operate radio equipment for communication with base and other municipal vehicles and/or work crews.
• Perform duties in such a manner as to create a favorable image of the city
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. REQUIRED:
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of process and procedures used in concrete, asphalt, and dirt work.
• Knowledge of safety issues, rules and procedures pertinent to department mission and tasks.
Skills:
• Skill in operating flatbed truck and other heavy equipment such as grader, front end loader, backhoe and a variety of power and hand tools and equipment.
Abilities:
• Ability to speak, understand, read, and write in the English language.
• Ability to read and understand Manufactures Safety Data Sheets (MSDs).
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Physical ability to perform tasks in all weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively using radio equipment.
• Ability to interact harmoniously with public and co-workers.
Education:
• High School or GED
Experience:
• Prior experience operating large trucks and heavy equipment.
Licensing/Certification:
• Must have a valid Class D Oklahoma Driver’s License.
• Must have Public Health Certificate to spray chemicals to control vegetation, mosquitoes, ticks, rats, etc.
B. DESIRED:
• Prior experience working with municipal infrastructure.
