The Guymon Arts & Humanities Commission consists of nine board members appointed for three-year terms by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
Guymon's Cultural Downtown District showcases our community of diverse immigrant cultures, working hard to live the American Dream. It is a railroad town founded on the shoulders of pioneer farmers and ranchers who nurture not just Hall-of-Fame cowboys but also multi-talented artists across the various artistic disciplines. There are a majority of Hispanic retail shops side by side; stores featuring Americana, an art gallery, a historic theater, photography studios, and so many more places worth exploring. Aside from a deli and a coffee shop hidden among the retail stores, the district is also the proud venue of some highly recommended eating places in town.
As you venture out into our district, don't forget to scan QR codes found at strategic storefronts and anchor sites for access to a historic walking tour guide via SoundCloud. The Guymon Cultural Downtown District also has several geocaches spread throughout its grid. For the younger set, there are Pokestops and Pokegyms, where rare Pokemon lurk, as well as a splash pad.
The Guymon Cultural Downtown District hosts national- and state-recognized events, including the week-long Guymon Pioneer Days and Pioneer Days Rodeo (instituted in the Hall of Fame of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association), the Five-State Motorcycle Run's Outback Party, Azuma: An African Celebration, and Guymon Fiesta Day. It is also the heart of the towns Shop-and-Dine monthly retail experiences, yearlong live theater and music performances, Second Saturdays, art classes and exhibits, culinary arts explorations, pop-up art galleries, stand-up comedy, film shows, and a historic walking tour.
Just outside the downtown district is the award-winning, USGA-rated Sunset Hills Golf Course, adjacent to our fish-stocked Sunset Lake with its breathtaking dusk skies and a variety of family-friendly activities, and a 300-acre game reserve for bison, elk, and longhorns.
