Karina Franco Artist Statement -
"When I work on a piece of art, I don’t work on a piece of art, I work on myself. Every piece has my emotions, my life, my likes, even my flaws. I enjoy sharing my life with others so they can learn from my mistakes or successes through my language; art. I have so much passion for life itself and I channel that towards art. This is the way I can communicate with others without using words. When an artist can achieve to express themselves through paints or pencils, not only is it art, it is a gift. Even more wonderful than that is when the audience can feel even the slightest bit of my soul or emotions portrayed on a two-dimensional piece.
As my inspiration comes to me, it is more common for me to choose to work two dimensionally and to emphasize on the colors. Because of that, I am drawn to painting in acrylic or watercolor but I also love the vibrant feel of colored pencil. I tend to lean towards the eye catching colors because whether I am having a good day or a bad one, they put me in a better mood. With that said, I also like to make other people smile and feel happy about life as much as I do. In choosing other specific materials for my art, I base it off my mood and whether I can also make my audience feel the same. This is also when I know I am completely finished with a piece; when it makes me relive the certain feeling.
I love art and being able to create something from nothing. You have to put your best foot forward and follow your heart, which is exactly what I do. I hope to show people the beauty in life because it is everywhere. I am a firm believer that there is beauty in everything, we just have to stop and look at it or in my case, make art of it to help others see. God has made this world as perfect as it can be and sometimes we are so caught up in surviving that we forget to notice how good life really is.
I learned I have to work hard in everything I do so I can get the best results. My whole family had set the example to keep working hard even if you are stuck in a hole. The struggles in life and the wonderful times that are priceless are the foundation as to why I love art so much. As long as I am alive, I will continue doing art. That is a gift I am blessed with and will never take for granted."
